Sustainability has gained a new creative voice at the Escola Superior de Comunicação Social (ESCS). As part of the Eco-Schools Programme, students from the Creative Writing Workshop course unit, within the Postgraduate in Advertising and Marketing (daytime and evening programmes), were challenged to create an institutional signature for the internal brand ECO ESCS.
The challenge resulted in a competition of ideas that put the talent and environmental awareness of the student community to the test. A jury made up of members of the ESCS Eco-Schools Council evaluated all the submitted proposals and selected the following signature as the winner:
“É escsito não seres eco!”
The phrase, marked by its sound and ESCS identity, was created by student Carolina Barreiras, currently in the second year of the Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Marketing. With creativity and impact, the signature reclaims the affectionate name by which students identify themselves — ‘escsianos’ — while at the same time conveying a clear message of commitment to sustainability.
Circular economy and creativity in action
More than just a slogan, “É escsito não ser eco!” is now a mark of identity that inspires practices within the institution. The phrase is being applied across various materials, produced creatively and in accordance with the principles of the circular economy, resource recovery, and reuse.
Materials for internal use were developed through the transformation of repurposed elements, reinforcing the importance of rethinking how we consume and produce.
This initiative demonstrates how ESCS integrates sustainability into its educational strategy, encouraging active student participation and promoting learning experiences that combine creativity, environmental awareness, and social responsibility.
With the contribution of its academic community, ESCS continues to establish itself as an Eco-School within an Eco-Campus, where every action counts toward building a more sustainable society.
