The ESCS’s marked its 36th anniversary on 19 January 2026 with a commemorative ceremony characterised by strong participation from the academic community and several symbolic moments of celebration and recognition.

The celebrations began with the hoisting of ESCS’s 7th Eco-Schools Flag, reinforcing the institution’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Attendance throughout the morning exceeded expectations, reflecting the engagement and sense of belonging of students, academic staff, non-academic staff and alumni.

During the ceremony, the commemorative video marking ESCS’s 36th anniversary was screened. The video revisits key moments in the institution’s history and is available to watch on YouTube, allowing the entire community to relive this celebration.

One of the central highlights of the programme was the presentation of diplomas to award-winning students as part of the academic distinctions, including the Innovation and Society Awards, the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) Scholarships and the Merit Scholarships of Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), recognising merit, dedication and academic excellence.

The ceremony also included the awarding of the ESCS 25 Years of Service Commemorative Medals, honouring academic and non-academic staff for their career paths, dedication and continued contribution to the development of the school.

The ceremony also included a heartfelt tribute by lecturer Maria João Centeno to lecturer Helena Ribeiro, who will retire in February 2026.

The festive moment concluded with a performance by escsTUNIS, who sang the traditional ‘Happy Birthday’ to ESCS, accompanied by the cutting of the birthday cake, in an atmosphere of celebration, fellowship and institutional identity.
