The ESCS's marked the beginning of the 2026/2027 academic year with a series of Welcome Sessions for new students. From 11 to 15 September, the initiatives brought together Bachelor’s, Master’s and Postgraduate students, as well as students enrolled in evening programmes and international mobility students, providing them with a first introduction to the School and its academic community.

11 September | Erasmus+ Welcome Session

The welcome programme began on 11 September with the Erasmus+ Welcome Session, which welcomed around 80 incoming students to the ESCS foyer.

The session was designed to welcome new international students, support their integration and provide them with a first introduction to ESCS, other incoming students and the wider academic community.

The initiative was supported by the International Relations and Academic Mobility Office (GRIMA), the Public Security Police (PSP), the Psychological and Educational Support Service (SAPE), FCCN, the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), and the ESCS Students’ Association (AE ESCS), who contributed to introducing students to different services, resources and opportunities that are important to their academic experience at the School.

14 September | Bachelor’s Degree Programmes

On 14 September, ESCS welcomed around 200 new Bachelor’s students at a session held in the Vítor Macieira Auditorium, dedicated to the School’s four Bachelor’s degree programmes: Audiovisual and Multimedia, Journalism, Advertising and Marketing and Public Relations and Corporate Communication.

The session included an institutional welcome from ESCS President, Professor Sandra Miranda, followed by an introduction to the coordinators of the four Bachelor’s degree programmes. The President of the ESCS Students’ Association, Diogo Bértola, also took part in the opening session.

One of the highlights of the morning was the “In Conversation with Alumni” panel, featuring João Marcos Machante, an alumnus of Audiovisual and Multimedia, André Carvalho Ramos, an alumnus of Journalism, and Maria Canudo, an alumna of Public Relations and Corporate Communication. The panel was moderated by Luís Ribeiro Rodrigues, Coordinator of the ESCS Communication Office and an alumnus of the Master’s Degree in Advertising and Marketing.

The session concluded with a musical performance by escstunis, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the students who are now joining the ESCS community.

14 September | Meet ESCS’s Partners

Also on 14 September, new students had the opportunity to meet some of ESCS’s partners in a session dedicated to presenting services, resources and opportunities available throughout their academic journey. The initiative featured ISEL Fórmula Student, FCCN and the Psychological and Educational Support Service (SAPE), which introduced their projects, services and forms of support available to the student community.

14 September | Master’s Degrees and Postgraduate Programmes

Also on 14 September, ESCS welcomed around 150 Master’s and Postgraduate students at a session dedicated to new students enrolled in these study programmes.

Following the introductory meetings for the different programmes, the joint session was attended by the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Lisbon, Professor António Belo, the President of ESCS, Professor Sandra Miranda, and the Vice-President of the Students’ Association, Francisca Conde.

The coordinators of the four Master’s and four Postgraduate programmes were introduced, giving students the opportunity to learn more about their programmes and their respective coordination teams.

The programme also included a presentation of the Laboratory of Applied Research in Communication and Media (LIACOM), delivered by its Director, Professor Jorge Veríssimo, and of the Scientific Research Initiation Programme, presented by its Coordinator, Professor Patrícia Melo.

The event concluded with a musical performance by a jazz quartet: Maria Fonseca on trumpet, Alexandre Castaldo on saxophone, Jery Bidan on guitar, and Francisco Rosa Melo on double bass, followed by a drinks reception.

15 September | Post-Labour Bachelor’s Degrees

The Welcome Sessions cycle came to an end on 15 September, with the reception of around 50 students from the two Bachelor’s Degrees offered in a post-labour format.

The session began with a musical performance by escstunis, followed by addresses from the President of ESCS, Professor Sandra Miranda, and the President of the Students’ Association, Diogo Bértola.

The coordinators of the two Bachelor’s Degrees offered in a post-labour format were then introduced: Advertising and Marketing, presented by Professor Rui Gonçalves, and Public Relations and Corporate Communication, presented by Professor Tatiana Nunes. This gave new students the opportunity to learn more about their degree programmes and the opportunities offered by ESCS.

A New Academic Year Begins at ESCS

Across the different Welcome Sessions, ESCS welcomed around 300 new students, including Bachelor’s, Master’s and Postgraduate students, students enrolled in post-labour programmes, and international students.

These initiatives marked the beginning of a new academic year at ESCS, giving new students the opportunity to get to know their degree programmes, lecturers and fellow students, while strengthening the sense of community that characterises the School.
