Objectives

Social media is having an impact on our personal and political lives, and so it is vital to understand its role in the modern world. The ever-growing digital native world now claims for increasing digital communication sector jobs amongst digital-only communication outlets. Many of these digital organizations emphasize the importance of social media in storytelling and engaging their audiences with information. If that information is an increasingly critical resource, with new languages and ways of communicating, there is a need to include these new skills in the production and dissemination of that information. Communication, Information and Social Media Literacy course wants students to have a clear understanding of this engagement and social interaction.

Skills

Participants in this course will emerge with a better understanding of social media practices, forms and processes within the media arena and their consequences for the role of communication in contemporary society.
