The ebook “Communication, Media Literacy and Citizenship: Launch of the UNESCO Chair” is now available (in Portuguese) in the IPL repository and on the Chair’s website. The publication documents the official launch ceremony of the UNESCO Chair in Communication, Media Literacy and Citizenship, held on October 30, 2024, at ESCS-IPL, and records the diversity and interdisciplinarity experienced during the event.
Organized into five parts, the ebook includes:
1. A speech by Maria Augusta Babo, from ICNOVA – Instituto de Comunicação da NOVA, addressing the conceptual foundations of communication, media literacy, and citizenship.
2. A contribution by Paolo Celot, from the European Association for Viewers Interests (EAVI), focusing on digital platforms and the importance of media literacy for the full exercise of citizenship.
3. A presentation by the Chair holders, Fernanda Bonacho and João Abreu, outlining the objectives, team, work plan, and expected outcomes of the UNESCO Chair.
4. A photographic gallery of the Música na Comunidade (Music in the Community) project, which brought together video, sound, and body expression through a partnership between ESELx and ESML.
5. An afterword by Filipe Barrocas Lima, describing the creation of the ebook with Graphic Communication students and highlighting the role of design in making the public space more visible and accessible.
Coordinated by Fernanda Bonacho and Filipe Barrocas Lima, the ebook reflects the Chair’s commitment to academia, the community, and co-creation, celebrating the date that marks the beginning of its history.
