Writing for Documentary
Submitted by escs on 7 January 2026
Objectives

Writing is an essential tool in the creation of documentaries, an audiovisual and cinematic genre that, regardless of current events, addresses a topic from an author's point of view. Through the study and critical analysis of examples, the aim is to provide students with direct contact with different writing models and to develop, through practical examples, screenwriting techniques applied to documentaries. In the end, students will have developed and written an individual project.

Skills

Classroom work will allow students to understand how the evolution of language and technology has determined the various modes of relationship between the camera and the subject, giving rise to the various subgenres of documentary; they will have developed and completed an individual project, starting from an idea, going through the phases of research, processing and creative use of the rules for constructing a narrative structure.
