Getting Around Lisbon

Lisbon has an extensive public transport network that makes it easy to travel both within the city and to other municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

The network includes several modes of transport:

  • Metro
  • Buses
  • Trains
  • Ferries connecting both sides of the Tejo River
  • Cycle paths and bike-sharing systems

Combining these different modes of transport makes it easy to travel between different areas of the city and to explore the surrounding region.

Humberto Delgado Airport is located within the city, approximately seven kilometres from central Lisbon, and is directly connected to the Metro network and other forms of public transport.

For those who regularly use public transport, different passes and ticket options are available across the networks operating in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. Before choosing the most suitable option, check the current conditions and fares provided by the relevant transport operators.
