The School of Communication and Media Studies of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon is part of the European consortium behind the AI-HED project – Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education Teaching and Learning – which has just launched a free online course dedicated to Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education.
The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) was developed to support lecturers and educators in understanding the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on education and in the critical, ethical and effective integration of AI tools into teaching and learning processes.
Available on a self-paced basis, the course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the past, present and future role of AI in the context of Higher Education, while also promoting digital and pedagogical skills suited to emerging technological challenges.
The programme is organised into seven modules:
- Introduction to AI in Education;
- Ethical Considerations;
- Digital Literacy;
- The Use of AI Tools in Teaching and Learning;
- Case Studies and Practical Examples;
- Critical Thinking;
- Future Trends.
Each module includes learning materials and activities that can be completed independently and flexibly. Participants receive a certificate for each completed module, as well as a final certificate upon successful completion of the entire course.
According to Bogdan Okreša Đurić, from the Faculty of Organization and Informatics at the University of Zagreb and lead developer of the MOOC, the aim is to “provide essential tools for adapting teaching and learning environments in Higher Education institutions to the changes brought about by AI”, while promoting a “responsible, critical and inclusive” use of these technologies.
O curso foi desenvolvido no âmbito do projeto Erasmus+ AI-HED, uma parceria europeia que reúne quatro instituições de Ensino Superior:
The course was developed as part of the Erasmus+ AI-HED project, a European partnership bringing together four Higher Education institutions:
- Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences;
- University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna;
- Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon – School of Communication and Media Studies;
- University of Zagreb.
Co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ 2021–2027 programme, the AI-HED project seeks to adapt teaching and learning environments to the transformations brought about by Artificial Intelligence, promoting the development of skills among lecturers and students and producing recommendations for the integration of AI in Higher Education institutions.
The course can be accessed free of charge via the official AI-HED project platform.
More information about the project is available at: ai-hed.eu.
