A short film developed by students from the Master’s degree in Audiovisual and Multimedia (AM) at the School of Communication and Media Studies (ESCS) has been selected for several national and international film festivals, establishing itself as an example of the creative and technical work carried out within the institution’s academic training.

The project was produced during the first year of the master’s programme, in the 2024/25 academic year. The screenplay writing phase took place in the first semester, within the curricular unit Audiovisual Communication (Concept), followed, in the second semester, by the production phase, developed in the curricular unit Audiovisual Communication (Development).

The team responsible for the short film is composed of students Ana Rita Martins (director and screenwriter), Luís Barros (producer), Júlio Antunes (director of photography), André Quendera (camera operator and editor), and Adelaide Scarlatti (production assistant and script supervisor).

The short film has already been selected for several renowned festivals, including the 31st Caminhos do Cinema Português Festival, FANTASPORTO – the 46th Porto International Film Festival, CICLOPE – Cycle of First Premieres, the Ethereal Horror Film Festival (United States of America), Shortcutz Lisboa, and the Embrace Your Darkness Film Festival, thus reinforcing the international visibility of the work developed by ESCS students.

As part of CICLOPE – Ciclo de Primeiras Estreias, the short film will be screened at Cinema São Jorge, in Lisbon, on 25 January, as part of Session E, starting at 3.00 p.m. CICLOPE is a showcase dedicated to the premiere of new films and new authors, promoted by Cinema São Jorge in partnership with the educational project Afim de Filmes, with the aim of supporting emerging creators and bringing new audiences closer to contemporary cinema.

Participation in this initiative and selection for several festivals represent recognition of the academic and artistic path of the students involved, highlighting the importance of the practical and creative component of the Master’s degree in Audiovisual and Multimedia at ESCS in the training of new professionals in the field.
