David Taylor, lecturer and researcher at Johns Hopkins University (Washington, D.C.), was at ESCS, from February to May 2025, as part of the Fulbright Scholarship program, an initiative aimed at promoting educational, cultural and scientific exchange between USA and other countries. A specialist in Science Writing, Taylor teaches in the Master’s Program in Science Writing at that American university, where he trains future journalists and communicators to convey science-related content to the general public.

During his stay in Lisbon, David Taylor taught classes and sessions in the subjects of “Climate Journalism” and “Communication, Information and Social Media Literacy”, highlighting the engagement of the students and their interest in narratives about Science, Environment and Journalism. He emphasized the enthusiasm and curiosity of portuguese students, noting their openness to global issues compared to the more nationally focused approach of his students at Johns Hopkins University..
Taylor also mentioned the unique opportunity to be in Portugal during the 25th of April celebrations, which allowed him to reflect on freedom of expression and the role of journalism.
David Taylor returns to the USA impressed by the students, and their openness to looking at stories from around the world, and thankful for the warm welcome he received at ESCS.
